EASTERN PRELACY TO CELEBRATE 20TH ANNIVERSARY
OF PONTIFICATE OF CATHOLICOS ARAM I
NEW YORK, NY—His Eminence Archbishop Oshagan Choloyan and the Religious and Executive Councils of the Eastern Prelacy of the Armenian Apostolic Church of America are preparing to welcome His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of his election and consecration.
Celebrations of this milestone anniversary have been taking place in various parts of the world. The Eastern Prelacy’s celebration will take place on Sunday, October 9, 2016, with a Pontifical Divine Liturgy at Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church in Ridgefield, New Jersey, at 10 am. The Liturgy will be followed by a cultural program and banquet at the Marriott at Glenpointe in Teaneck, New Jersey. The Divine Liturgy will be live streamed beginning at 10 am. For details go to www.armenianprelacy.org.
His Holiness was enthroned on July 1, 1995. Although the actual 20th anniversary was in 2015, the celebration was delayed in order not to conflict with the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide that was commemorated throughout the world last year.
The Eastern Prelacy’s celebration on October 9 immediately follows similar celebrations in California and Canada by the Prelacy of the Western USA and the Prelacy of Canada.
Details about the October 9th commemorative events are currently on the Prelacy’s website (www.armenianprelacy.org). For other information contact the Prelacy office, 212-689-7810.
